A VCSEL Array Transmission System with Novel Beam Activation Mechanisms

Optical wireless communication (OWC) is considered to be a promising technology which will alleviate traffic burden caused by the increasing number of mobile devices. In this study, novel vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) array proposed for indoor OWC systems. To activate best beam user, two activation methods are system. The method based on corner-cube retroreflector (CCR) provides very low latency and allows real-time high-speed users. other uses omnidirectional transmitter (ODTx). ODTx can serve purpose uplink transmission simultaneously. Moreover, systems with robust random orientation user equipment (UE). System level analyses carried out VCSEL For single scenario, probability density function (PDF) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) central system approximated as uniform distribution. addition, average data rate its upper bound given analytically verified Monte-Carlo simulations. multi-user an analytical given. effects cell size full width at half maximum (FWHM) angle performance studied. results show that FWHM $4^\circ$ outperforms others.
